PRESENTATIONS

 

December 6, 2016 :  “A Treasure Trove of Writer Resources” (30-minute presentation delivered to the Parchment and Prose Writing Group at Ironwood Library): This presentation focused on “out of the box” resources, such as generators, editing apps, lists, and title raters that writers can use to improve their work.

October 25, 2016: “Transformation” (5-minute speech delivered at Ironwood Library’s 25th Annual Celebration): The theme of this speech was transforming your life and using the library’s resources to do it.

2016: “Mission Impossible: Finding the Time to be a Writer” (60-minute presentation delivered to the Parchment and Prose Writing Group at Ironwood Library): This presentation examined the very real challenges many people face when trying to become “real” writers; an easy-to-implement system was offered to help writers find the time to write.

2015: “Tips and Tricks for Overcoming Writer’s Block and Generating Ideas” (60-minute presentation delivered to the Parchment and Prose Writing Group at Ironwood Library): This presentation offered a myriad of ideas to help writer’s bypass writer’s block and/or generate new ideas.

2015: “To Plot or Not to Plot” (45-minute presentation delivered to the Parchment and Prose Writing Group at Ironwood Library): This presentation examined the pros and cons of plotting versus “pantsing” (or writing by the seat of your pants). 

2015: “How Well Do You Know Your Genre?” (30-minute presentation delivered to the Parchment and Prose Writing Group at Ironwood Library): This presentation examined industry standards for different genres, with discussion about the applicability of these standards to those who choose to self-publish.

2015: “Building 3D Characters” (40-minute presentation delivered to the Parchment and Prose Writing Group at Ironwood Library): This presentation explored many elements that writers can use to bring their characters to life.

2015: “Marketing Tips for Writers” (20-minute presentation delivered to the Parchment and Prose Writing Group at Ironwood Library): This presentation examined some of the things newly published writers can do to begin marketing themselves and their books.

2015: “A Novel Starts With Just a Single Word” (30-minute presentation delivered to the Parchment and Prose Writing Group at Ironwood Library): This presentation examined readability scores and passive sentence ratings--and the pros and cons of using these simple tools that are available in most spellcheckers.
